Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon Set for Sunday, March 18  

Marathon and Half Marathon to start and finish at Centennial Olympic Park  

With 27 days to Go, Still Time for Runners to Register  

ATLANTA – February 21, 2012:  More than 18,000 runners are expected to hit the streets of Atlanta for the Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 7 a.m.   The race course will travel through metro Atlanta ’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park , Decatur , Druid Hills , Virginia - Highland and Midtown.  Along the way, runners will pass landmarks including the King Historic Site, Carter Center , four college campuses and Piedmont Park .   

Sunday’s events will feature 19 hydration stations providing water, Gatorade and encouragement to participants along the course.  Runners will also experience several cheering stations to keep their spirits high as they push to the finish line.  As part of the entertainment lineup, local 70s cover band Yacht Rock Revue will be performing on the main stage in the finish line festival.  

Additional races during the weekend include the Cuties Luckie 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, March 17, 2012, beginning at 8 a.m.  The events will start and finish at Centennial Olympic Park and run through downtown’s Luckie Marietta District.  Participants can sign up online at www.georgiamarathon.com.  

Publix Georgia Marathon race weekend will also provide enthusiasts a chance to receive health and fitness tips and purchase running gear at the Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo held at the Georgia World Congress Center Friday-Saturday, March 16-17.

·         Publix Georgia Marathon Poster Design Contest Winner Revealed: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 4:30 p.m., at Savannah College of Art & Design Atlanta .  

·         Atlanta City Council Proclamation Announcement – during halftime of Atlanta Hawks game: Friday, March 16, 2012; game time is 7:30 p.m., at Philips Arena.  

·         Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo: Friday, March 16, 2012, noon to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Georgia World Congress Center .  

·         Cuties Luckie 5K and Kids Fun Run:  Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta ’s Luckie Marietta District.  The Cuties Luckie 5K will begin at 8 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m.  

·         Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon :  Sunday, March 18, 2012, starting at 7 a.m., from Marietta Street/CNN Building and finishing at Centennial Olympic Park.  

·         Awards Ceremony: Sunday, March 18, 2012 with the Half Marathon Awards being distributed at 8:45 a.m., and the Marathon Awards given out at 10:30 a.m., from Centennial Olympic Park Main Stage.
