Khannouchi Will Not Run LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon
World recordholder Khalid Khannouchi has issued the following statement on his website, www.khannouchi.com:
I was looking forward for another great performance at this year LaSalle Banks Chicago Marathon, unfortunately a minor injury is causing me to lower the intensity of my training. As the result I am obligated to withdraw from the race. I do not feel like I'll be able to perform to my potential. Also if I run the Marathon I will be risking my chances to participate at the Olympic Trials and with this as well loosing my hope to make the Olympic team. Right now the Trials and a chance to make the Olympic team is my main priority. La Salle Banks Chicago Marathon will be there every year. I know that, God willing, I will have another chance to come back and then give you the performance that you are expecting from me. I thank the Chicago marathon personnel for their great support regarding my decision.
