Medtronic TC 10 Mile and Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon to Host Men's 2007 & Women's 2008 National 10 Mile and 2008 Men's National Marathon Championship Events

Championships Location Awarded by USA Track & Field 

(Minneapolis, MN) – USA Track & Field has named Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. host of the 2007 USA Men’s 10 Mile National Championship, the 2008 USA Women's 10 Mile National Championship and the 2008 Men’s National Marathon Championship events. The announcements were made during the 28th USA Track & Field Annual Meeting, November 30. 

"USATF is delighted to work with the Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. (TCM) organization in presenting the 2007 USA Men's National 10 Mile Championship, and the 2008 Men's National Marathon Championship events. Our committee voted to award these championship events to TCM because of their long history of support for USA athletes, development of USA distance running, and the quality of their event presentation and attention to detail,” Glenn Latimer, Chair, Men's Long Distance Running, USATF, said. 

The 2007 Medtronic TC 10 Mile takes place October 7, 2007, and race officials expect a very competitive field. “The timing of hosting the USA Men's National 10 Mile Championship will bring top athletes from all over the United States, as they prepare for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials -Men's Marathon during the New York City Marathon weekend of November 2, 2007. It will provide an opportunity to show case the Twin Cities,” Virginia Brophy Achman, Executive Director, Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, said. 

The 2007 USA Men’s 10 Mile National Championship prize purse will total $25,000 and will be awarded to the top male winners of the Medtronic TC 10 Mile Event. 

Prize purse for the 2008 USA Women’s 10 Mile National Championship will total $25,000 and will be awarded to the top female winners of the Medtronic TC 10 Mile on Sunday, October 5, 2008. Elizabeth Phillips, Chair, Women’s Long Distance Running, USATF, said this is the first women’s 10 mile championship prize purse offered since Park Forest Scenic hosted the event in 1999. 

“At the recent USATF annual meeting, runners were very enthusiastic to have Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. host this event because they are treated extremely well and there is such great spectator support. We thank Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. for their support of all USATF programs,” Phillips said. 

As 2008 Men’s National Marathon Championship host, Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. will offer an $81,000 prize purse to the top male winners of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, which takes place Sunday, October 5, 2008 in the Twin Cities.
