I think that the value of these stores to the race management community is something that tends to be undervalued in many cases. In addition to providing bibs, packets, prizes and space for same day registration, running shoe stores yield important and free marketing benefits for many races. If larger-scale retailers are going to enter the market, it would behoove them to include this level and degree of sponsorship.
