Environmental Issues Can't Be Ignored

Hardly a day goes by without news of global warming and its deleterious effects. Carbon neutral efforts are now a part of mainstream media stories. The quest for environmental stewardship that balances responsibility with economic reality remains a challenge.

Where Does Road Running Fit In?

Are we part of the problem or part of the solution? What do you do with the thousands of cups, water bottles, and the other trash generated by your event? What efforts do you or should you make leading up to race day? Should running events be in the forefront of the environmental movement? Should we leave that to someone else?

Some U.S. road races have taken steps to become more
environmentally responsible. From paperless registration to
compostable cups to offering incentives to runners using
mass transportation to get to and from events, race directors
around the country have begun to "green" their events.
