Peters
Keith was race director of
Portland's Cascade Run Off 15K and has served as a frequent
participant and faculty member at the Road Race Management Conference. His
background includes 17 years as a Nike
executive with assignments as Running Events Manager, Director of Athletics (Track and Field, LDR), Director of Public Relations and he was the founder of
nike.com.
Keith left Nike in 2001 to create
kpcomm.biz,
which focuses on helping clients present their
products, programs and services to customers in informative, useful ways. In January 2007
Keith launched www.carbonneutraljournal.com
a blog devoted to exploring the issues and
opportunities that climate change poses to our
everyday lives.

Environmental
Issues Can't Be Ignored
Hardly a day goes by without news
of global warming and its deleterious effects. Carbon neutral efforts are
now a part of mainstream media stories. The quest for environmental
stewardship that balances responsibility with economic reality
remains a challenge.
Where Does Road Running Fit In? Are we part of the problem or part of the solution? What do you do with the thousands of cups, water bottles,
and the other trash generated by your event? What efforts do you or should
you make leading up to race day? Should running events be in the forefront of the environmental movement? Should we leave that to someone else? Some U.S. road races have taken steps to become more
environmentally responsible. From paperless registration to
compostable cups to offering incentives to runners using
mass transportation to get to and from events, race directors
